What is ICCROM – Sharjah

ICCROM is an intergovernmental organisation dedicated to the conservation and management of cultural heritage world-wide. Since its establishment by UNESCO in 1959, ICCROM is serving the international community of its 137 Member States by undertaking initiatives in conservation training, information, research, cooperation and advocacy.

ICCROM-Sharjah is a regional office of ICCROM located in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Established in 2012 by ICCROM and the Government of UAE, the founding vision of ICCROM-Sharjah has been in response to the challenging times in parts of the Middle East and North Africa, which have undergone large-scale loss and devastation of cultural heritage properties. Therefore, ICCROM`s regional office aspires to safeguard cultural heritage in the Arab region by supporting its conservation, effective management, understanding and appreciation.
