ICCROM-Sharjah hosts its 3rd Consultative Board Meeting

Under the patronage and with the presence of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the 3rd Consultative Board Meeting of ICCROM Regional Centre for Cultural Heritage Conservation in the Arab Region kicked off in its premises in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

The Consultative Board Meeting held on 17 January 2019, was attended by institutional partners (Director General of the Sharjah Museums Authority, Chancellor of American University of Sharjah, Vice-Chancellor of University of Sharjah, Chair of Sharjah Archaeology Authority, Chair of Sharjah Institute for Heritage, representatives of Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development), ICCROM council Members from Arab States, Directors of Cultural institutions from the Arab Region and the UN resident coordinator.

The ICCROM-Sharjah Consultative Board Meeting included an opening speech by Oliver Martin, ICCROM’s Chairperson of Council, and welcome remarks by Dr Zaki Aslan, Director of ICCROM-Sharjah Centre in which he praised the support of Ruler of Sharjah for cultural heritage conservation and the UAE initiatives in this field in the region. Dr. Webber Ndoro, Director General of ICCROM also stated that “With the guidance and support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, ICCROM-Sharjah has become a world-renowned reference for heritage capacity building”.

During this one-day event, the Consultative Board Meeting started with an overview of ICCROM-Sharjah’s main achievements and future needs. It also tackled with the prospects and challenges that ICCROM-Sharjah will continue to work in with all regional and international partners.

The Board Members discussed the upcoming ICCROM-Sharjah’s activities’ programmes and endorsed the Centre’s strategic directions and roadmap for the next 5 years.
