Regional Meeting on Enhancing Legislative and Institutional frameworks of Cultural Heritage in Arab and African countries

With the great and generous support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the Regional Centre for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage in the Arab Region, ICCROM-Sharjah has organized a regional meeting over a period of three days from 22 to 24 October 2018 in its premises in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

The meeting was attended by representatives of international partner organizations and representatives of competent heritage authorities in the Arab and African countries including: Bahrain, Benin, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Senegal as well as a group of international experts.

The workshop began by presenting the results of the online survey which was conducted by ICCROM-Sharjah to explore the reality of the legislative and institutional frameworks of cultural heritage protection in the target countries. It also included different presentations of case studies from the field and various interventions by international and regional legal experts.

At the end of the regional meeting, a number of areas requiring short-term support to enhance and strengthen Legislative and Institutional frameworks of Cultural Heritage in the region were identified.
