ICCROM – Sharjah Award for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage in the Arab region 2019

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, ICCROM’s Regional Conservation Centre in Sharjah (ICCROM-Sharjah) invites applications for the Award for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage in the Arab region, 2019. This Biennial Award seeks to honour and reward outstanding work that contributes to the protection and vitality of tangible cultural heritage in the Arab region.

The Award is organized in two stages; the first is an open competition resulting in nominations for exemplary projects. The nominated projects will then be evaluated by ICCROM-Sharjah experts who will initially evaluate projects on site and then short-listed projects will be announced and put forward for the second stage. Representatives of the short-listed projects will be invited to present to an independent panel of internationally renowned experts who will select the winner. The Award is for the conservation of tangible cultural heritage significant to its local or wider community. The cultural heritage may be from any period, of any material and at any scale, from a single object to a building to a complete landscape.

The Award is composed of two main categories: 1) sites and buildings; 2) collections. Two Prizes will be given accordingly. Another separate category targeted for the youth will be announced shortly with more details.
