Istanbul, Turkey - November 1-2, 2017:
The Director- General of ICCROM, along with Dr. Zaki Aslan, the director of ICCROM-ATHAR, attended the International Conference in Istanbul on “Protecting Cultural Heritage in the Muslim World”, convened by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, IRCICA (The Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture) and ISESCO. HRH Prince Sultan bin Salman together with Dr. Halit Eren (Director General, IRCICA) inaugurated the conference. Several Organisations, personalities, experts and states were present. They addressed current challenges in the protection of heritage in the Arab and Muslim World. ICCROM’s Director General and Director of ICCROM-Sharjah highlighted the essence of historic preservation in the Muslim World based on tolerance, dialogue and inspired by a humanitarian approach. The role of education, and disseminating and producing knowledge were stressed, together with actions contributed by ICCROM and ICCROM-Sharjah.
Sharjah, UAE- Nov 7, 2017- ICCROM Chairperson visits ICCROM-ATHAR
Marie Lavandier, an ICCROM Chairperson and Director of the Centre for Research and Restoration of Museums of France, visited the ICCROM-ATHAR Office in Sharjah and discussed with the Director of ICCROM-ATHAR projects undertaken by the Sharjah Office.
Abu Dhabi, UAE – Nov 8, 2017:
The Director of ICCROM-ATHAR attended the Louvre Abu Dhabi opening on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, which was inaugurated by dignitaries from the UAE and France, with both sides hailing the museum as a monument to the global confluence of cultures “that will broadcast tolerance and acceptance”.
The inauguration of the iconic museum was attended by King Mohammad VI of Morocco, Bahrain’s King Hamad Bin Eisa Al Khalifa, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, President of Afghanistan, and a number of representatives from brotherly and friendly countries.
