Under the Patronage of His Highness, a course on the Principles and Techniques of Architectural Documentation of Cultural Heritage was launched on Sunday 21st May 2017 at the premises of the ICCROM-ATHAR Regional Conservation Centre. Thirteen professionals took part in this course, representing six Arab countries: Egypt, Libya, Palestine, Syria, UAE and Yemen. Organized in cooperation between ICCROM-ATHAR and the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, this course is the first of a five short-course series that besides documentation will focus on the conservation of stone and mortar, structural conservation, management of historic sites, and the conservation of earthen architecture. This series of courses targets an audience of Arab cultural heritage conservation professionals, and aims at improving the technical skills of professionals, as well as encourage cooperation concerning specific themes. Participants in this one-week course practiced skills of registration and documentation using traditional readily available techniques, as well as high-end technologies to be able to adapt with their working conditions in their home countries. The general aim of the course is to encourage and facilitate cooperation and exchange of expertise between the representatives of the six Arab countries, and strengthen cooperation between organizing entities and partners from the Arab Region.
