Cooperation with Bahrain

Coordination meetings were organized between the ATHAR-ICCROM Regional centre in Sharjah and Bahrain’s Arab Regional centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH), under the auspice of UNESCO in both Sharjah (UAE) and Manama (Bahrain).

On 3rd October 2013, Mr. Mounir Boushnaqi, Director of (ARC-WH) paid a visit to the ATHAR centre in Sharjah and met with the ATHAR team. Initial discussions took place on coordination of planned activities by both centres.

On 6th October, 2013, a coordination meeting was held at ARC-WH in Bahrain. Present were D. Mounir Boushnaqi, Dr. Anna Paolini, Director of the UNESCO office in Doha, Qatar, Mr. Karim Hendili, Project specialist at the UNESCO World Heritage centre in Paris, Dr. Kamal Bitar, Programme officer at ARC-WH, and Dr. Zaki Aslan, Director of ATHAR regional centre in Sharjah, UAE. The one-day meeting discussed potential joint activities with institutions involved, as well as coordination of actions implemented by each partner institutions

A Memorandum of understanding will be developed to ensure close coordination and concerted efforts for the benefit of cultural heritage in the Arab states.
